Waiting and visiting summer
If any month in a year, May is a bit tough one to get over in Geilo. While in southern parts of Norway and on sea level there is already full summer in Geilo you keep waiting for melting of the snow in sometimes temperatures of +5 or close to zero. Then when summer decides to arrive it arrives really fast. I felt the same when I was living up north in Finland, Rovaniemi, that there wasn’t really time called spring. It is just winter and then maybe one week spring before summer arrives. While I am writing this it is +20 degrees outside, but a week ago I still got my toes frozen while mountain biking in rain and snowstorm in Nesbyen.
This year we managed to visit a bit summer already in May in other parts of Norway. Antti was building mountain bike trails in Kragero and I attended two sea kayak courses. The other one gave me licence of being sea kayak instructor in Norway and I have been working a bit in Oslo as well with holding some introduction courses in sea kayaking. It felt good to get on water again, but also a bit rusty being on a sea kayak after two summers of very little sea kayaking. I’m looking forward of finally getting white water kayaking started for the season as well.
At the moment snow is finally melting on the mountains in Geilo and it is possible to ride on most of the trails with of course some pushing of your bike on a snow. We hope to see you on trails in Geilo this summer!
