Fat Viking 2020
“This is obviously not a normal bike race. If you think about a bike, it takes you places, and it takes you places both physically and mentally. And I think the adventure of a fatbike takes it even further. It´s just unlimited. It takes you to places that you wouldn´t even have dreamed of that you can go with a bicycle.” Nina Gässler – the founder of Fat Viking
It´s not only about the race, it´s an adventure. It´s being part of something bigger. It´s about challenging yourself. It´s a challenge to overcome the obstacles that the nature puts you up against to. It´s a challenge to became a Viking.
This was the fourth year when Fat Viking took place. All the years have been different. We have experienced cold temperatures, a lot of fresh snow that meant a lot of pushing the bike. We have had icy conditions and high winds. It´s always a challenge both for the racer and for the organizer. We are making this to happen by the rules of the nature.
I have been part of Fat Viking since the beginning. I have raced two times, first year I did the 150 km race and last year the 100 km race with my wife. I´m also part of the Fat Viking society (organization committee). This year I was taking photos and I was also responsible for the safety of the race. It´s a privilege to be able to see and experience all the aspects of the event
When I was going through the pictures that I took I realized that there is a huge smile on everyone’s face. I couldn´t stop smiling and I remembered all the feelings I had during the two races I have been in. You will experience a huge variety of different feeling throughout the race. The feeling when you finish and realize that you have concurred the mountains and the winter is something amazing. You became a Viking.
We have a lot of people who has been taking part of the race every year. I think that it proves that we are doing something correctly. Now after the race and intense last week before the race I´m feeling a bit empty. There is a whole year before the next race. Whole year before new Vikings are born.
